There are many reasons to join your PTSA! First and foremost, you lend your voice to the largest and oldest student advocacy organization in the country. PTAs advocate locally (your county, your state) as well as nationally and drive priorities important to its members.

National PTA

National PTA is the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the nation and is the conscience of the country for children and youth issues. Through advocacy, as well as family and community education, National PTA has established programs and called for legislation that improves our children’s lives, with things like:

• • Creation of Kindergarten classes
  • Child labor laws
  • Public health service
  • Hot and healthy lunch programs
  • Juvenile justice system
  • Mandatory immunization
  • Arts in Education
  • School Safety

WA State PTA

Here in our state, we are all part of Washington State PTA (WSPTA). And what impact has WSPTA made on our lives? For starters, WSPTA coined the term, “preschool,” more than 60 years ago! During World War II, WSPTA arranged care for children while mothers went to work in the factories – and that’s if those mothers weren’t busy taking PTA-organized shifts at area watchtowers, scanning the skies for enemy aircraft. Around the same time, WSPTA first organized kindergarten co-ops.

And there are many more PTSA advantages: 

• The PTSA offers a variety of programs designed for parents as well as students. They host educational clubs and events for our families.

• PTSA provides opportunities to meet other parents and teachers. You can share ideas, concerns, and experiences. 

• It’s pretty simple the more members or voices the more powerful we are at advocating for what we want.

• PTSA believes we can make every child's potential a reality...But we need more believers.
