Teen Wellness - Recap 2007
The Teen
Wellness Committee’s goal this year was to
introduce the students to lifelong fitness
activities. We recognize and celebrate each
individual student’s interests and abilities,
knowing that some students are interested in
activities not emphasized in school. Family
and community activities, which can be pursued
outside of school, offer variety, challenge and
competitiveness and can be enjoyed beyond school
years. With the assistance from the Fitness
Staff, we decided to bring in experts in the
sports of badminton, cricket, rock climbing,
yoga, Pilates and lacrosse.
The
following organizations were instrumental in the
success of this years’ program. They
volunteered to come into our school for a day
and in some cases, two days each semester
and devoted their energy and enthusiasm to our
kids. We believe strongly that the guest
speaker’s unique perspective and knowledge added
to the existing fitness curriculum. In fact,
the feedback from the students who attended the
classes has been very positive. Please join us
in thanking these organizations for their
contribution:
Bellevue Badminton Club –
badminton
Northwest Cricket League –
cricket
The Sanctuary Spa and Yoga – Yoga
The PRO Sports Club – Pilates
Vertical World – Rock Climbing
WALAX - Lacrosse
In addition
to introducing these lifelong sports, we rounded
out our Wellness offerings by providing
information on energy drinks and nutrition using
both guest speakers and articles written for the
Parent Organizer. We also assisted the Natural
Helpers by supporting the play about bullying by
Taproot Theatre Company, which performed for our
student body this past February.
Our guest
speakers were only able to attend selected
classes, so we wrote monthly articles on those
topics for all the students of the school to
read in the Parent Organizer. On the first
Thursday of each month, we held a questionnaire
contest during lunch period based on the monthly
article. Ten names were chosen from the winning
box. Here is a list of our monthly winners:
