Teen Wellness

Our district schools always
offer standard sports such as basketball,
baseball/softball, volleyball, wrestling,
football and tennis for our students. What about
the students that are not interested in these
sports or not as active? The goal of Teen
Wellness this year is to get students that are
not involved in the school athletic programs to
become more active and involved in some type of
lifelong activity. We want to make sure students
are informed about a variety of activities they
can pursue. To accomplish this, we have and will
continue to bring in guest speakers that
actively involve the students in the following
activities: badminton, cricket, transverse
wall, yoga/Pilate and sports nutrition.
Students can participate in these life-long
activities both recreationally and
competitively. It is all about experiencing
something different that can have social, mental
and physical benefits.
Since the wellness programs
only reached a portion of our student
population, we have taken the lecture materials
and written monthly articles for the Parent
Organizer trying to reach the rest of the
school. To help promote the educational
material, we have developed a Teen Wellness
Corner. The students have a week to read the
article(s) in the Parent Organizer. On the first
Thursday of each month, the students are welcome
to go to the Eagle Nest’s Store area during
lunch to answer a question on the monthly topic.
Ten names are drawn from the correct answer box
for a small prize at the Eagle Nest Store. The
winners’ names also go into the grand prize
drawing which will be held in June. The grand
prize winner will be able to invite four friends
to a special lunch that will be served by Mrs.
Olson and Mr. Rabitoy.
We will be offering these
programs again during second semester to expose
more students to these life-long activities
since we have received positive feedback from
students and staff the first semester. The
fitness staff is going to include some of these
activities into the curriculum next year.
Lacrosse has already been added to this
semester’s agenda. Teen Wellness Committee |
